Cross Country Fun Run 2007

This year was a great year for the race, it was overcast and a little rainy.  With these conditions the riding was great; no dust and nice and cool. We were a little late on the start; however we had a few more members come out due to  the delay.  The start was a Lemans style, which means you start with a dead vehicle and have to run up, get on, start it and then take off.  Most of the compeditors started ok, however a few of us had issues and were left on the line. Rich had the fast time with a 19 minute run. Everyone finished within an hour and we all had a great time!

Weekend 2007

I was so busy having fun with everyone on Memorial weekend I plum forgot to take any pictures. These pictures were provided by Teri VanNess.  We raced, partied,  had a BBQ, and cruised through the dunes all weekend. We also ate plenty of sand on Sunday when the wind was blowing at 30mph.

Sand Scorpions Memorial Day 2007.
Jack and Mary Hughes owners of Discount Fireworks realy know how to throw a party with lots of food, beverages, games, and prizes for everyone.
Every year Jack and Mary decorate there warehouse in Tonasket and invite all the volunteers who help with the fireworks stands they have all over the state. Jack has about 45 stands and they are manned by many different groups. We all have a great time as the Hughes treat us to dinner, beverages, games, fireworks,a live band and dancing.
The evening starts out with dinner with steak and all the fixings, pizza, beverages even a open bar, and deserts. They have games for the kids from basket ball, air hockey, darts, ping pong, and a pool table. After dinner he treats us all to a fireworks display of the new products we will have to sell next year and every one is given a raffle ticket.
Jack with the help of one of his grand kids picks out the raffle tickets and this allows you to pick a prize from the display tables. The tables are covered with realy cool stuff from camping gear, tools, chain saws, trolling motors, appliances, electronics, games and even toys for the kids. As the tickets are drawn you get to pick anything off the table you want. So you can imagine we all came home with some realy great prizes.
Jack also has a huge glass jar with all the change from the booths and the person who guesses closest to the amount in the jar gets the money. Stan Cafferty one of our members guessed the closest and took home over $765.00 WOW.
Later the live band cranks up and everyone dances and enjoys the open bar, and mingles with everyone. Jack makes sure everyone has a ride back to there motel or has a place to park thier camper on his property. There were about 150 people who attended  this year and we had the largest group by far.
Several of us came early on Saturday and were able to take in the Family Barter fair a few miles outside of town. It was a realy cool experience I will not soon forget with all the venders, music, food, and smells. There were aprox 4000 people there and it was like stepping back in time to the 60s.
Thanks Jack and Mary for a very good time. Can't wait for next year.

Memorial Day 2007

Man did we have a great time on Memorial weekend. Had probably 100 plus members camp out with us at Pamps pit.  Set up for drag races on Saturday in the 1st parking  lot and had so many racers we had to flag start the races. Sunday the wind blew everyone away and we weren't able to do the drags or the freestyle jumping, but the riding late in the evening was great with super smooth dunes everywhere. Monday we all got together for the clean up and everything looks great.  Check out the Picture Links for Photos.
Fireworks Sales Update 2007

This was the best year we ever had with our fireworks sales. We sold $78,000 in fireworks over a 7 day sale. The best we have ever done in the past was 45k. On the last day (the 4th of July) we sold $34,000 in fireworks in 12 hours. Man were we busy it took 2 of us working full time to keep the shelves stocked while up to 10 Scorpion and AARP members were selling fireworks. All you members that helped were awesome, and many spent big money on fireworks and sent your friends to us. Thank you! Our commission check was $8.559.00 our share was $5.135.80 and AARPs share was $3.423.70.  We will be able to do more improvements to our race trailer and support our events. GREAT JOB!!  Check out the Picture Links for Photos.
Family camp out at  in the Yellow Zone (Mud Flats) was a blast. We weren't able to have the event out at Point No Point as the water level was to high so we scouted out a beach at the North end of the Yellow Zone. This to was a great place to have our party. The 150lb pig roast was a tasty success thanks to all the Scorpions who donated their time and excellent side dishes of tater, macaroni, fruit, 3 bean and veggie salads. corn on the cob, tater chips, and dips,  baked beans, soda pop, and more. We had about 140 guests who devoured almost everything in sight. Special thanks to Ross Lingenfelter who arranged for the Giant BBQ and got it all going.  On Saturday we started the pig set up the drag race trailer. Right of the bat we found that our Race America system had gone up in smoke so we were forced to flag start all the drag races, even that didn't slow down the event. Moses Lake towing donated his tractor and blade for us to groom the track and it worked great thanks Alan. The drags started at 5pm and went on till 1 pm both Saturday and Sunday. There must have been 1000 passes and not a single mishap. On Sunday afternoon we did the Australian pursuit races with the Quads and the trucks. The Quads raced around the beach on a closed course that was basicly a TT type track mostly flat with a few wet spots and small bumps. They also opted for a moto cross type start for the second event. Both events were a blast and everyone came off the track totally blasted with mud and sand. The trucks had a longer course that had several water crossings and was great fun to watch as as the mud and water was everywhere it to was basicly a flat track and high speed. What a blast. Of course the kids had a blast swimming , playing on the beach, riding thier quads, and playing the drums. We also had a fire works display each night, and some of the Sandscorpions were treated to a air boat rides. WOW.  Pictures on Picture Page 1

CROSS COUNTRY FUN RUN 2007
We had 25 entrants this year, mostly quads and motorcycles. Attendance was down from last year probably because of all the rain we had. This also delayed the start from 9am to 11:30. Those who entered had the best race conditions with wet dust free sand and cool 70 degree temperatures. We started everyone together with a Lemans style start. The group left in a flash racing across the sand. It was not long after the start when James Getting crashed knocking the wind out of him coming off a dune into a set of whoops on his new Kawasaki 450. Most of the racers stopped to provide him assistance and he soon got his wind back and off we all went. It was totally inspiring to see how many racers went to James aid, that's the Sand Scorpion family for you! Several of the leaders overshot the 2nd check point allowing the rest of the group to catch up and pass them. Rich Archer was the first back with a finishing time of 19 min flat Zack Taber and Jeremy Davis followed within seconds. Everyone returned within 1 hour even some who had stopped to help a gal retrieve her quad that was upside down in a bunch of willows. She wasn't one of the racers but again we race for the fun of it. Everyone had lots of stories to share at the end as we all got to eat plenty sand, mud, and water from the roosts of the guy in front of you. The race was over open sand dunes, through winding trails, water and mud crossings.  Check out the Pictures Links for Photos.

  Team Mud Bogs 2007
What a tough day for the mud bogs, and those who came know why. Old Mother Nature threw us a curve this year with loads of rain not to mention the fact that the O'Sullivan Reservoir was as high as we have ever seen this time of year. Both contributed to making our usual mud bog pits small lakes. Hence we changed our venue this year to a tough truck closed course fun run. We still were able to get in the mud but not to where everyone had to be winched out.
Ross Lingenfelter mapped out a 2 1/2 minute course over hills, through brush, mud, and water crossings that was a blast. We set out 6 vehicles at a time 15 seconds apart and timed thier laps. It was a real drivers course with tight turns muddy obsticles to manuver around and through, even a table top jump that some guys were flying over. The fastest time was set by Lyle Labes Jr in his full size Bronco with a 2 min flat run, Ross placed 2nd only 1 second behind.
We also had a great BBQ meal with Peny Archer cooking us up left over pulled pork on a bun, chips, and pop. D J Starkweather provided us with his family recipie BBQ sauce that was D-J lishus. Pictures are on Pictures Page 1
Lind Lions Club Demo derby & Quad Races

Man those guys realy know how to have fun. The demo car races were fast and furious with trophie dashes, heat races, and a Australian pursuit race, topped off with the demo as parts were flying and the hits were hard.
We had 15 quads enter for the flat track races.  We had 2 heat races, and a main followed with a Australian pursuit race.  It wasn't exactly a flat track thou as the holes in the turns could almost swallow a quad. It did make for some exciting racing as it came down to the riders who could hold on the longest while dodging the holes and other racers. The heat races determined the starting position for the main where all 15 riders lined up 5 abreast and 3 rows deep. That track was defiantly full with racing at every turn , the crowd loved us. The Australian pursuit race was brutal, I'm sure everyone was sore the next day as we probably ran 20 laps. The Lions club loved us and asked us to come back next year, can't wait.  Pictures are on Pictures Page 1

Christmas Tree and Sledding fun run. 2007
On December 8th 2007 we all gathered at Airway Deli and gas and headed to Leavenworth WA for some fun sledding, hot food and a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. We had a line of 25 vehicles 1/2 a mile long,  in our group out on the highway.
I couldn't believe how many members showed for this run. when we finally got to our destination up on Eagle creek at about 10:30 there were 80 Sandscorpions with sleds in tow. We set up base camp started cooking our vittles, and had a huge camp fire.          There were so many of us we had to feed everyone in shifts. We served 4 giant pots of chili, a 15lb deep fried turkey, and 10lbs of chicken. Not to mention the 4 gallons of hot coco 3 cases of pop, rolls, and all  the goodies everyone brought to munch on.
We had about a foot of snow and the weather was gorgeous, not a cloud in the sky, temps in the mid 30s.
The kids ripped down the hill on there sleds and tubes while the adults went tree hunting, snow mobiling even riding thier quads.
A couple of us ended up with some bumps and bruises and had a few cold feet and fingers but everyone had a blast.
Check out the pictures on page 1. If this event gets any bigger we will have to find a larger place to park all our rigs, we barely had room to feed everyone and sled.
Thanks everyone for making this event a success.
